The TEXAS WANDERERS is San Antonio's oldest "Volkssport" club. Our aim is to promote walking and other volkssports and to encourage fellowship among the participants.
Although we are organized under the sponsorship of the Outdoor Recreation
Center of Fort Sam Houston, membership is open to all persons regardless
of race, sex, religion or military status.
|
Additionally, the TEXAS WANDERERS are active in the community by collecting NON-PERISHABLE FOOD items for a local food pantry at all meetings and events sponsored by the TEXAS WANDERERS. |
WHAT IS VOLKSSPORTING?
|
The sport is governed by the International Federation of Popular Sports
(IVV) and the American Volkssport Association (AVA). The AVA is a non-profit,
charitable organization whose goal is to promote physical fitness through
stress-free exercise which is organized and fun events known as
Volkssports.
Volkssports include non-competitive 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) walks, bike
events or swim events. It's not a race. It's a fun activity you do with
a club, with your family, with your pet, with your friends, or just by yourself.
There are 3 active local volkssport clubs in San Antonio, many though-out
the United States, and around the world.
|
Local clubs host the walking events and our trails are selected for safety, scenic interest, historic areas, natural beauty and walkability. The trails are marked or maps are provided. Trails may be in cities, towns, parks, forest, rural areas, anywhere there is an interesting place to walk. We welcome new members, but you don't have to join the club to enjoy the volkssporting events. All events are open to the public.
The events are fun and informative. Go at YOUR own pace: stroll, powerwalk, or jog. Everyone who participates is a winner and is eligible to receive the event award. Volkswalk events are a great way to get regular exercise, meet new friends, and learn more about the areas where you walk.
