Tarrant County Walkers
2010 Year Round Events

Tarrant County Walkers sponsor six (6) Year Round Events (YREs).  Five are walks and the one is a bike event. Please walk/ride during daylight hours only. Information provided below applies to all our YREs.

  • SANCTIONED:

Events are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV).

  • IVV CREDIT:

Only one IVV credit (stamp) may be entered in event book per six months.  You may participate for distance credit without limit.  You may walk the trail twice the same day on one start card for distance credit only.  IVV insert cards (not books)should be available in the walk box.

  • REGISTRATION AND FEES:

There is no pre-registration.  Ask attendant where the start box is located.  All participants must register, sign waiver sheet and have a start card.
                            IVV CREDIT ONLY..................................$3.00
No fees for those not wanting credit or award.  Event will be open regardless of weather.  No refunds.

  • AWARDS:

If available, B Awards are 50 cents.

  • DISCLAIMER:

Sponsors, proprietors of all start locations, all departments of Tarrant County, Johnson County, the City of Fort Worth Parks and Recreation Department, and the City of Burleson are not liable for accidents, thefts, and/or material damage.  Every effort has been made to make events safe, enjoyable, and memorable.

  • CONDITIONS:

  • Everyone is welcome to participate
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Pets, if allowed (see event flyer) must be on a leash at all times.
  • Please do not take pets inside the start points.
  • Discard litter in the proper receptacles.
  • Carry water on all trails during summer months.
  • Groups refer to contact person for assistance.

Fort Worth Cultural District Walk/Bike

Starts at Fairfield Inn, 1505 S. University Drive, Fort Worth

12K walk Rated 1, Wheelchairs and strollers welcome.  Route is on paved river walk along the Trinity River, along city streets passing museums, theaters, coliseum and through botanical garden, where pets are NOT allowed.  6K Route is on paved and gravel paths through Trinity Park.  5K Route is through Botanic Gardens only (not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers).  Please use caution: as in all large metropolitan areas, we discourage people from walking alone.

36K and 26K bike.  The bike ride is on the bike/walk trail along the Trinity River.

Downtown Ft. Worth Walk

Starts at Sheraton Ft Worth, 1701 Commerce, Fort Worth

10K rated 1+, 5K rated 1, takes you through downtown Fort Worth with its rich architecture and western history. The 10K also goes by Victorian Homes and along the Trinity River.

Cowtown & Stockyards Walk

Starts at Stockyards Visitor's Information Center, 130 E. Exchange, Fort Worth

5K/12K walk Rated 1+.  It is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.  The 12K walk is along bike/walk trail along the Trinity River and along city streets.  The 5K walk is on paved sidewalks and streets through the Stockyards.

Historic Weatherford

Starts at Albertson's, 225 E. Spring Street and Highway 180, Weatherford

10K Walk, rated 1+ due to small hills and limited sidewalks. The route is on paved city streets. Wheelchairs and bigwheel strollers welcome.

Special Classifications:   Artistic Heritage, Cemetery Stroll, Courthouses, Firehouses, Railroad Heritage

Historic Burleson

Starts at City Market, 200 E. Renfro, Burleson

10K/5K Walk, rated 1, winds through old town Burleson and neighborhoods.  The route is on paved sidewalks and city streets.

Special Classifications:  Authors and Literary Landmarks, Historic Churches, Museums, Native American Culture, Railroad Heritage, Veteran Memorials
